Despite my recent bought of illness, it is my goal to stay on track with the plan for students to give their biography speeches on March 22, 23 and 24. The schedule below shows which day your child will be presenting their speech to the class. Parents are invited to attend, so please take a look at the schedule and let me know if you have a conflict with the date your child is assigned. I will do everything I can to rearrange accordingly. Due to limited space, you may only attend your child's speech session.

THIS WEEK'S HOMEWORK
Biography Speech Preparations
All students can access their Google Drive from home, and will be asked to work on typing, or revising and editing their biography essays as their homework this week. No additional homework will be assigned this week.
Due to my recent absences, I have been utilizing the benefits of Google Drive to access the students' writing, and provide them feedback online. I can leave them comments on their work and make suggestions and revisions in a separate color to support their writing process. I will continue to do so in the coming days.
You can expect your child to bring home note cards later this week, which they will use to prepare for their speech. They will not be expected to hand write their essay onto the note cards, but rather cut and paste the paragraphs of their essay onto the note cards. They might need your support to help adjust the margins so the paragraphs fit onto the note cards. If your child is unable to complete this step at school, feel free to guide them through that step at home.
How to help your child prepare for their speech
1. Ask your child to show you their essay on their Google Drive Account.
2. Help your child decide on a costume, or related dress.
3. Help your child find a prop or visual aid to display during their speech that helps communicate who they are (i.e. a map would be a great prop for a famous explorer).
4. Have your child practice their speech at home once they have
completed their note cards. Stress good delivery--eye contact, pace, and volume.
The rubric below will be used to evaluate the students on the speeches and essays.
